Preferred Equipment List

Of course, upgrading to a professional-model horn with all the trimmings is the best option for any student. But, budgets are tight, and often upgrading to a great mouthpiece can help almost as much. If your student is playing on the same equipment they started on in 6th grade, it is time to adjust. This is almost the same as them wearing the same pair of shoes they did 5-years ago, they have simply outgrown them! Below is a list of some items we would prefer them to play on, and sample costs from Dietze Music in Bellevue. Before purchasing any instrument, please consult with us first for the best option for your student.

EQUALLY IMPORTANT as having good equipment is MAINTAINING that equipment!! You wouldn’t wait until your transmission fell out of your car before performing maintenance, so you shouldn’t wait until the horn stops playing before taking it to the shop. In reality, EVERY horn should go to the shop about once every 2-3 months for routine cleaning and adjustment. Remember, students are responsible for maintenance on school owned instruments.

REEDS AND MOUTHPIECES should be dried after EVERY use!!! Think about putting a wet, moldy popsicle-stick in your mouth day in and day out….. gross….. BRASS INSTRUMENTS should be given a bath in ROOM

TEMPERATURE water every month…. same thing…..gross…..

LAST – You should actually “see AND hear” you investment at home!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make sure your student spends a few hours a week away from the video games and facebook, and practicing their instrument!!!!
