Your Generosity Is Appreciated
And the winner is . . . the Bellevue Food Pantry. Thanks to all of you for your overwhelming response and generous donations of food to help provide for those in need within our community. We took a significant number of boxes to the food pantry Sunday evening, and they were most grateful. From the band staff and the boosters at Bellevue East, we wish you a happy and peaceful holiday season.
It Just Makes Good Sense
Earlier this month, Mr. Hardin opened an envelope from a company called GoodSearch. The envelope contained a check for $198.21 made out to the Bellevue East Marching Band. That is double the amount we made last year! We want everyone associated with the band to know more about GoodSearch so that our future checks are for ten times that amount. Raising funds through GoodSearch is so simple and so easy.
Here’s the scoop: GoodSearch is a search engine, like Google, which donates 50-percent of its revenue to the charities and schools designated by its users--people like you! You use GoodSearch exactly as you would any other search engine and because it's powered by Yahoo!, you get proven search results. Each time you use the search engine to search the web, GoodSearch will make a donation to the cause of your choice. The money GoodSearch donates comes from its advertisers. It costs Bellevue East Band nothing to participate, and all you have to do is use the search engine, just like you use Yahoo! or Google. So simple!
GoodSearch also has a GoodShop option. The GoodShop option is much like our former “Scrip/Gift Card” program--a stated percentage of your purchase will go to your named charity. Their businesses include Wal-Mart, iTunes and Nike. What a deal!
Here’s the connection: Visit www.chieftainband.com. Select “Main” and then select “Shop the Web” or “Search the Web.” Those selections will take you to the GoodShop or GoodSearch home page and automatically fill in “Bellevue East High School Band Boosters (Bellevue NE).” There are instructions on both pages telling you how to make GoodSearch your primary search engine on your tool bar, or you could add GoodShop an one of your “favorites” on your pull down menu if you want to access these without going through the Bellevue East Band web site. So easy!
The beauty of it all: This is money we can earn without demanding precious volunteer hours from anyone. Mr. Hardin has visions of adding two zeros to the amount of the check he received, so to help him we are asking everyone to cut and paste the “Here’s the scoop” and “Here’s the connection” sections of this newsletter and send it to all your friends and family. You can even watch our numbers soar by looking at the summary of our school under the “Amount Raised” option on the GoodSense home page. Can we double the amount of the check again? Sure we can, it just takes GoodSense.
It Should Be Music To Your Ears
When was the last time you heard your child practice his or her instrument at home? The answer should be, “just yesterday.” You have invested a lot of time and money in your child’s musical career and Mr. Hardin says, “You should actually see and hear your investment at home. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure your student spends a few hours a week away from video games practicing their instrument!!!!”
Let’s Slip Out And Have Some Fun
What to do on a cold night in February? Let’s all meet at Lansky’s for some fun, fellowship and a night away from the kitchen. We have reserved the party room for Wednesday evening, February 10. Mark your calendar now, and more information will follow!
Preferred Equipment and Private Lessons
The list for preferred equipment and suggested instructors for private lessons lists have been added under the “Forms and Resources” section of the band’s web site.
Officers Seeking Officers
Each year we look for those among you who are willing to serve a term or two as an officer for the Bellevue East Band Boosters. This year we are looking for a Vice President and Secretary. You can share this position with a spouse or friend, no problem. The Vice President position is an assistant to the President for the first year and then becomes the President the next year. This year’s co-Vice Presidents, the Trojanowskis, will step into the position of Presidents next year. The secretary takes minutes at the booster meetings as well as publishes the e-mail based newsletter. The newsletter can be written in any style that works for you, so if your style is less wordy than mine, for example, that will be just fine! It works just as well to invite everyone to have some fun at Lansky’s in one sentence as is does in ten (like I have done above!). The important part of this job is to keep the parents informed and the lines of communication open between the parents and staff.
All The Best To You And Your Family
From the bottom of our hearts, the staff and boosters of Bellevue East Band wish you a joyful, peaceful and safe holiday season. We look forward to a fun and successful second semester.
