About
Bellevue East High School's Instrumental Music Program is regarded as one of the school's most diversified and successful programs. Its concert bands, jazz bands, marching band, color guard and drumline make it one of the most active programs in Nebraska. The program is designed to allow all students to participate in performance groups and gain a comprehensive music education.
The core of the East band program are the concert bands.
The marching band, jazz ensembles and percussion groups are an extension of our Varsity Band and Freshman Band Program. Early in the fall marching season, the 10-12 grade students in the marching band audition for placement in the concert band that both meets everyday during first period. The ninth grade meets third period each day. Bellevue East has approximately 225 students participating in these curricular bands.
The role of all of East's co-curricular music groups is to provide students with an opportunity to expand their musical knowledge and experiences. Jazz band gives students a unique insight into the improvisational art of jazz performance. Marching band, winter guard and the percussion groups provide a competitive element to music performance. The pep band contributes to the excitement of high school athletics and promotes school spirit. District Music Contest, All State Band & Jazz Band, and the other area honor bands allow students to earn awards and special recognition for their talents. The largest performing group at East is the Marching Chieftains. This group is recognized as one of Nebraska's elite. The marching band is co-curricular, in that we spend a considerable time outside of the normal school day in rehearsal and curricular in that we also spend school time in rehearsal. The band has an unmatched record of superior and first place ratings in Nebraska. The Marching Chieftains also have a national reputation for excellence.
East has an active and highly successful band program, emphasizing commitment, quality, and FUN! The band is highly respected for its achievements from both a school and community perspective, and is extremely popular with its members and parents.
